Driving lessons in Blackheath - SE3
Blackheath, the “Pearl of South East London” is where our office is located. We are proud to serve Blackheath Village, Blackheath Park (Cator Estate), Blackheath Standard, Westcombe Park, Kidbrooke and the Ferrier Estate.
As well as the first ever golf club it claims to have the oldest surviving rugby club in the world, Blackheath RFC, known as “the Club” The starting points for the London Marathon are from the Blackheath gate of Greenwich Park and a stone’s throw away on the Shooter’s Hill Road.
The story that Blackheath got it’s name from all the victims of the Black Death that were allegedly buried under the heath is untrue however, the area was known for highwaymen in the times of Dick Turpin (hence “Shooter’s” Hill) and also as a rallying point for the peasant’s revolt under their leader Wat Tyler. Going back even further it was a stopping point for the Romans along Watling Street. Development of the area began in earnest in the 17 & 1800s and there are many fine examples of Georgian and Victorian houses in the area. For more information about Blackheath click here.
It is a good area to learn to drive in with a variety of busy roads and junctions (A2, Sun in the Sands) as well as quieter roads suitable for novice drivers, such as Kidbrooke and the Vanburgh Park area. Be prepared for heavy traffic at rush hour times and whenever there are problems at the Blackwall Tunnel (frequently!) or when roads collapse such as Blackheath Hill a few years ago. Watch out also for width restrictions and the daft Bus Lane in the Village not adhered to by anyone other than learner drivers (and instructors of course!)
The nearest driving test centre to Blackheath is Hither Green , which is approximately one mile from Blackheath Village.
